How To Create An Effective Profile On Elance

An effective profile is necessary to show your skills in front of others. In this post I will explain how to create your profile at Elance.

Step 1. Registration

a. First of all register at Elance. To register, Click below:

You will see the following page,

b. Click on ‘Register Now (It’s free)’. The following page appears.

c. Select ‘I want to work’ and click ‘Continue’. After clicking on ‘Continue’, following page appears.

d. Fill out the required information on this page. Select account type as ‘Individual’ and click on ‘Register’. Your account will be created and the following page appears.

Make account on elace. Mention your Skills

e. Click on ‘Skip for now’. You can select your skills later in detail in profile settings.

After clicking on ’Skip this step’, a popup will appears asked you to select at least one category. Select your desired category and click ‘Continue’.

f. Now you are asked to select membership plan. As a beginner, I suggest the ‘Basic plan’ which is free.

Create elance account. Select Membership

g. After selecting the membership plan, you will be asked to verify your email address. Go to your email account and click on confirmation link. After verification, you will be able to login at elance. Log into your account with the username and your password

To complete your login, select two secret questions and their answers, to help with password retrieval.

Add your phone number, and you are ready to go.
Click “submit to log in”. You have now completed your Elance registration.

Step 2. Profile

Your profile is the key with the help of which you can unlock the opportunities to get jobs quickly. Your profile must be completed with all required information.

Now I am going to explain in detail the profile making process.

After registration and logging in to your account, go to your profile by clicking on your username on the top right corner of the page and select ‘Profile’.

First of all, set your profile picture.

Now see the screenshot. In front of the name “Junaid K” there is an option of ‘Get verified’ and ‘edit’. Click on 'edit'. The following page appears.

Here you are asked to provide the basic information. The basic information consists of the following:

1. First Name

2. Last Name

3. Display Name

4. Tagline

5. Hourly Rate

6. YouTube video Url (Optional)

7. Overview

8. Service Description

9. Payment Terms

10. Keywords

Fill out all necessary information. I am briefly explaining some terms.

Tagline: Mention you key skills here. e.g “Writing and proofreading expert”, "Web designer and Graphics expert".

Overview: Add few sentences about your background. Add your skills and reasons why others should hire you.

Service Description: Here, mention you services you want to offer. Mention your experience in your particular category/service which will attract more clients towards you.

Keywords: Enter keywords that match your skills. For example, Data Entry Expert, MS Word Expert, Essay Writing expert, editing expert, typing expert.

Click save and proceeds to next step.

Now edit your portfolio. Building a portfolio is very simple. You can write 2 or 3 articles and submit them to some article directory like Wikihow or Issuu or Ezinearticles.com and wait for their acceptance. Once they are accepted, you can take their screenshot and upload in your portfolio. Beginners willing to work in Web and Programming and Design and Multimedia category can make some templates or logos and upload in their portfolio. A strong portfolio is necessary to get the buyer’s attention.

Edit your skills in your selected category.

Edit your employment details (If any) and education details. Upload certificates.

Edit your contact information.
