There are some additional measures you can take to improve your profile in elance and hence increase the chances for getting hired on elance.
1) Take Skill Tests:
You can improve your profile by taking skill tests related to your category. If you passed the test, a badge will appear on your profile which will be visible to clients and hence greatly increases your chances of getting hired.
These tests consists of 40 multiple choice questions. The time for the test is 40 minutes. You must take these tests in order to improve your profile. After successfully passing the test, a badge is awarded to you and is appeared on your profile.

These tests are free of cost in Elance. You don’t
need to pay for these tests. (On freelancer.com,
there is a fee of $5 for each test that you have to pay)
2) Verify Your Payment Method:
This is necessary to
receive your payments. The payment verification is also free if you select "Payoneer" as your payment method (Freelancer.com charge $25 for credit
card verification

I recommend ‘Payoneer’
due to its simple procedure. It is
the most cheapest and reliable payment
method. You have to make an account in payoneer and after receiving your
payoneer prepaid master card (The payoneer prepaid mastercard is free of cost), just link it to your elance account and you are

3) Personal Verification:
You can improve your profile by getting verified
at elance. The purpose of this verification is to show that you are a real
person not a scammer. In verification process, you are asked to provide
your identity information such as ID Card no. or driving license etc. Upload a
scan of your ID card or license. In the verification process, you are asked to
select the time and date for your interview. Your interview will be taken
through Skype. You must have a skype account. Provide your skype account
details. Your verification process completes after interview and a
“Verified” badge is added to your profile. This will add trust to your profile.From this, the clients will be willing to hire you without any hesitation because they
know that you are a trusted person not a scammer.
4) Join Groups on elance:
There are groups in each categories and it's a good idea to join them so that you can meet other successful freelancers, get information and advice from them, and establish your credentials. You should communicate with the members of the group and take tips from them to become a successful freelancer.

LinkedIn is the world largest professional network where people from various fields make their professional accounts in search of Jobs and projects. Making your profile on linkedIn as a freelancer will introduce you to thousands of other opportunity seekers and employers. They will visit and read your profile and hence your chances of hiring will be increased.
